Participation in the London Global Summit to end Sexual Violence in Conflict
27 May 2014
Geneva Call and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) will organize a side event at the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict in London next 11 June.
The event will be the opportunity to discuss the challenges related to the engagement of armed non-State actors on the prevention of sexual violence in armed conflict. The floor will be given to gender experts from Geneva Call and the Swiss FDFA and to two representatives of armed groups.
A former female combatant of a Colombian armed group and a member of a Burmese armed group will present their perspectives and commitments on the prohibition of sexual violence and discuss the inclusion of women combatants and gender issues in peace negotiations.
This Summit is the largest ever international event on the issue, gathering 150 NGOs and Government representatives from some 140 countries. Organized by the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office, it will take place in London from 10 to 13 June.
