Geneva Call is a neutral and impartial non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting respect by armed non-State actors (ANSAs) for international humanitarian norms in armed conflict and other situations of violence, in particular those related to the protection of civilians

Appel de Genève / Geneva Call is a private, not-for-profit humanitarian organization founded in 1998 under Swiss law.


The Institutional Fundraising Officer is in charge of supporting the definition, designing and implementing Geneva Call’s institutional fundraising strategy with the objective of securing significant grant income and ensuring multi-year predictable funding to support Geneva Call’s mission and priorities. Under the guidance of the Director of Communication and External Relations, He/She tracks funding needs and opportunities, develops initiatives, activities and tools for retaining and acquiring support from institutional donors, builds relationships with institutional donors, coordinates and monitors the fundraising initiatives and management of Grants amongst Geneva Call’s Departments.


General responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Communication and External Relations in defining and implementing institutional fundraising strategies and ways forward
  • Provide analysis of needs and opportunities for fundraising,
  • Implement early warning mechanisms for tracking funding needs among the organization, and to share fundraising opportunities
  • Develop and keep up-to-date a donor database with donor profiles, contact details, and grant management information

Fundraising and Grant Management

In accordance with defined roles and responsibilities in fundraising and as per Geneva Call’s internal procedures:
  • Liaise with and support the other Departments to ensure an appropriate process is in place for the development of high quality institutional proposals
  • Provide support and analysis on the institutional donors’ sensitivities and rules
  • Support the writing or write effective fundraising applications in response to call for proposals and high quality project reports according to donors’ deadlines and specifications
  • Work closely with the financial controller to develop budgets and financial reports
  • Ensure fundraising roles and responsibilities as defined in Geneva Call’s internal procedures are respected

Relationship-Building and Positioning

  • Support the Director of Communication and External Relations to maintain and develop relationships with a portfolio of Government and multilateral organizations
  • Attend relevant meetings, workshops and events related to institutional donors
  • Share research, resources and evaluation with donors as appropriate
  • Assist in organizing donor events both at Headquarters and field level

Main Qualifications

  • At least 5-year experience of institutional fundraising in international humanitarian organizations
  • Knowledge of institutional donor mainly from Europe (in particular EU institutions) and Northern America, active in humanitarian action and protection
  • Demonstrable experience in preparing funding proposals and reports for institutional donors
  • Proven track record of income generation and meeting financial targets
  • Experience with fundraising databases and donor information management
  • Strong presentational, writing and editing skills in French and English
  • Very strong communication and people skills
  • Entrepreneurship mind

  • Maximal Duration Contract for a minimum of 6 months in view to replace a maternity leave, strong potential for open-ended contract afterwards.

  • Swiss citizen or a candidate with a work permit or who may be eligible for a Swiss work permit according to current Swiss legislation
