Geneva Call is registered as a foundation under Swiss law and works in conflict zones around the globe.
Geneva Call is implementing a programme to improve the protection of civilians in the context of the armed conflict in Yemen through engagement with armed actors and by raising awareness of humanitarian norms among Yemeni civil society and community leaders.
Role
Coordinating, managing and implementing Geneva Call’s programme on engaging armed actors and other stakeholders on the protection of civilians under the framework of International Humanitarian Law in Yemen.Activities
Core Responsibilities
Programme Development and Management- Developing the country programme stategy
- Contibute to develeoping project proposals
- Take the lead in programme implementation and management
- Monitor activities and provide timely support to the team
- Work with the Head of Mission (HoM) and the Finance Officer on country programme budgeting and monitoring
- Develop periodic updates and progress reports
- Line manage thematic project officers
- Assign responsibilities and monitor programme staff performance
- Build staff capacities and contribute to management team building efforts
- Maintain the team’s motivation at a high level
- Work with the conflict analyst and develop security updates for teams in the field
- Update field staff on security concerns and implement the security plan in field
- Provide security incident reports and support the HoM in resolving security issues
- Ensure staff complete security briefings and scrupulously comply with security procedures
- Represent Geneva Call in relevant clusters and forums
- Manage authorities and donor relations relating to programme activities
- Arrange donor visits and support the communication officer in media visits for programme activities
- Support field teams and partners in presenting Geneva Call in the field
Main Qualifications
Education:- Advanced degree in international relations or international humanitarian law and human rights law or political science; Bachelor’s degree with more than 6 years’ experience is acceptable.
- Minimum 5 years’ equivalent work experience in a humanitarian/human rights organization working in conflict areas, managing programme and human resources;
- Previous work experiences with armed actors is a plus.
- Advanced programme management skills including programme planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
- Strong writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Budgeting and financial management/monitoring skills;
- Strong presentation, writing and editing skills in Arabic and English;
- Demonstrable knowledge of humanitarian affairs issues and the capacity for political analysis;
- Very strong communication and people management skills;
- Well-developed logic and organizational skills, flexibility and adaptability to change;
- Report/proposal writing and project management skills;
- High-level negotiation and engagement skills;
- Excellent written and oral skills in Arabic and English
- Excellent integrity and accountability
- Natural affinity for networking and relationships building
- Self-starter and flexibility
- Be exemplary in representing Geneva Call’s values and ethics
- Good team player and facilitator of team work
- Sharing knowledge and encouraging others to learn and improve
