Head of Near and Middle East region and Colombia
Mehmet Balci is a journalist and a human rights activist and has worked for Geneva Call since 2000. After studying a number of foreign languages, he collaborated with various Kurdish political and non-governmental organizations as representative to the EU, UN, Council of Europe and OSCE. He is founder of the Turkish Campaign to Ban Landmines. He has authored articles in the Kurdish and Turkish press and wrote the Landmine Monitor reports on Turkey from 2001 to 2004 and the booklet Turkey Without Mines.
Head of the Policy and Legal Unit
Pascal Bongard has been working with Geneva Call since 2000 and is currently Head of the Policy and Legal Unit. He has published widely on issues related to humanitarian engagement with armed non-State actors and Geneva Call’s experience in particular. Before joining Geneva Call, he worked with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in Bern and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Ethiopia. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Journalism from the University of Fribourg and Master of Arts degrees in International Relations and Comparative Politics from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva and the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Director of Communications and External Relations
Maud Bonnet holds a Master’s Degree in International Humanitarian Law from the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights and a Graduate Certificate in Management of non-profit Organisations from the University of Geneva. Before joining Geneva Call in September 2011 as Development Officer, she worked with the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR).
Yannick R. Brodard joined Geneva Call in 2016. He studied computer science for 6 years and holds a certificate of capacity as well as a federal diploma. He has occupied roles such as Software Developer for a real-estate software company and Intranet Tester for the state of Geneva.
Augustin Chiruza Matabaro joined Geneva Call in 2016. He is a chauffeur-engineer at Geneva Call’s DRC office. He obtained his certificate of general automotive mechanics at the Kawa center, Bukavu Road Office. Before joining Geneva Call, he worked 8 years as a chauffeur-engineer for different international NGOs such as IRC, Mercy corps, AVSI and Oxfam.
Alain Délétroz is the Director General of Geneva Call. He has more than 20 years of experience in conflict-affected areas and has served in several organizations: Executive-in-Residence at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, Vice-President of the International Crisis Group in Brussels, Director of the Open Society Institute in Tashkent, Delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Moscow, and Adult Literacy and Capacity Building Project Manager at Interteam in Peru.
Institutional Communication Officer
Christopher Fitzsimons joined Geneva Call in 2018. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Hispanic Studies with Portuguese from Queen Mary, the University of London and a Master of Laws in International Law from the University of Malta. Before joining Geneva Call he worked in different communications roles for a number of international organisations including the United Nations, the European Union and the International Criminal Court.
Head of Partnerships & Development
Prior to joining Geneva Call, DJ lead key Innovative Financing and Private Sector Partnerships at Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, Strategic Communications at DNDi (Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative) and was Vice President, Strategic Solutions at Williams Lea Tag. Originally from Seattle, DJ holds an MBA from the Foster School of Business at University of Washington, and is a Kiva Fellow.
Director of Administration and Finance
Alex Gillen joined Geneva Call in 2016. He holds a Master degree in Management from Reims Management School and a Bachelor degree in Business law from Pantheon-Assas University. He also completed a MBA from Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo. Before joining Geneva Call, he worked in auditing firms and financial organizations, and then held management positions in different NGOs and NPOs.
Yan Grobel joined Geneva Call in 2018. He holds a Brevet Fédéral in Human Resources and another one in Team Management. Before joining Geneva Call, he worked with the Swiss unemployment insurance, Newell Rubbermaid Sàrl, Procter and Gamble international SA and UBS SA. He also taught by night course to future junior human resources specialist.
Thematic Legal Advisor
Ezequiel Heffes joined Geneva Call in 2017. He holds an LL.M. in International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights from the Geneva Academy of IHL and HR, and a law degree from the University of Buenos Aires School of Law. Prior to joining Geneva Call, Ezequiel worked as a field and protection delegate and as head of office for the ICRC in Colombia, Afghanistan and the DRC. He participated in different research projects and has published various articles and book chapters on armed non-state actors, including in the International Review of the Red Cross and the Yearbook of International Humanitarian Law.
Head of Africa region
Catherine Hiltzer joined Geneva Call in 2017, as Head of Africa Region. After studying political science with a focus on African and development studies at the Sorbonne, Catherine worked in ICRC as a protection delegate in Darfur, DRC, and later as Head of Offices and Sub-Delegations in South Sudan, Somalia, Burundi and Kenya. She later joined Enfants du monde – Droits de l’Homme as Desk Manager for Sudan, South of Sudan, Madagascar. She became Programs Manager within Action Contre la Faim, at Headquarters level, supervising programs in Afghanistan, Haiti, Madagascar and Zimbabwe. She finally joined Solidarités International as Desk Manager, supervising operations in DRC, South Sudan, Kenya and Somalia.
Director of Operations
Hichem Khadhraoui joined Geneva Call in 2016. He holds a Master degree in International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights from Western Cape University, South Africa and a Master degree in International Public and European Law from the University of Aix-Marseille III, France. He completed certificates in Leadership and Management from IMD Business School Lausanne and Columbia Business School, New York and is completing a certificate on security of international organizations with the Evosec institute. Before joining Geneva Call, he worked for over 10 years at the International Committee of the Red Cross both at field and headquarter level in positions of Manager and Program coordinator.
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning Advisor
Katherine Kramer, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Advisor, received her Bachelor of Arts in Latin American Studies from the University of Washington and her Master's degree in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from American University. She worked for two years as a researcher in Thailand with Non-Violence International Southeast Asia where she co-authored the Landmine Monitor reports on Burma (1999 and 2000), Bangladesh (2000) and Singapore (2001). Before joining Geneva Call in January 2002, she worked for the Small Arms Survey as the researcher for Southeast Asia and illicit trafficking. From 2002 - 2016, Ms Kramer was responsible for Geneva Call's Asia programmes.
Head of Mission Burma
Taylor Landis joined Geneva Call as a Programme Officer for Asia in 2014. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in French and Italian from Princeton University, a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, and was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 2012. Taylor formerly worked in Southeast Asia with the NGO Fortify Rights, and in Europe with the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
Head of Eurasia Region
Marie Lequin joined Geneva Call in 2014. She has 14 years of experience in designing, implementing and managing media programs for the prevention of violence and promotion of human rights in developing and transitioning countries. Her background covers both non-governmental and international organizations in Central and West Africa and the Middle East. She has been trained as a radio journalist in the UK and in France where she is from.
Programme Coordinator Lebanon
Hiba Mikhail-Rizk joined Geneva Call in October 2014. Holder of a Bachelor of Arts in Law from the Lebanese University - Filière Francophone de Droit, she graduated in 2014 upon completion of her first year of Master (M1). Since May 2015, she has been in charge of coordinating Geneva Call's activities in Lebanon and within the Palestinian refugee camps.
Operations Coordinator Africa
Céline Morgan joined Geneva Call in early 2016. Prior to that, she worked with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs on Peace Policy in the Middle East and spent two years working in Lebanon and Yemen on peacebuilding and civil society with a European consulting company. She also worked with swisspeace on conflict sensitivity, gender and peacebuilding analysis and impact and with a Swiss trade union on gender equity at the workplace. She holds a master in Middle East Studies, Modern History and French Literature from the University of Bern.
Yazid Ounnough holds a post graduate diploma in Economics from Paris XIII University and Manchester University. Over the past 12 years he has worked in the field of Finance for a number of consultancies and for the NGO Action Contre la Faim, spending a year in Somalia and a year in Ethiopia as Financial Administrator. He joined Geneva Call in 2013 as Financial Controller.
Yolvi Lena Padilla Sepúlveda joined Geneva Call in 2008. She has a background in community development, human rights, international humanitarian law and support to people affected by armed conflict in different regions of Colombia. She has studied Psychology at the National University of Colombia, and Childhood, Culture and Development at the District University. She has also studied Action without Harm and Protection of Civilian Population. In May 2015 she received the Henry Dunant ground award.
Chargé de la Finance
Hauraz Raoof a rejoint l’Appel de Genève en 2016. Il possède a obtenu un MSc en Démographie de la faculté des Sciences Sociales et Mathématiques de l’Université de Southampton en Angleterre, ainsi qu’un BSc en Statistiques de la faculté d’Administration et Economie de l’Université d’Erbil. Avant de rejoindre l’Appel de Genève, il a travaillé comme statisticien au ministère de la planification du Gouvernement Régional du Kurdistan.
Thematic Legal Advisor
Carla Ruta has been working with Geneva Call since July 2014. She holds a Master in law in International Humanitarian Law from the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights and a Master Degree in International Relations from the Geneva Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies. For more than 7 years she worked as a delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Colombia, the Gaza Strip, Sudan and South Sudan, Central African Republic and Kyrgyzstan. She held various positions, among others head of Sub-Delegation and Deputy Protection Coordinator. Before joining Geneva Call, she worked with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs as a Desk Officer in the Human Security Division and later as a Legal Advisor in the Directorate of International Law.
Delphine Saddy joined Geneva Call in 2015 as an accountant. She holds a Higher Technical Certificate in management assistance. She has been an accountant in small and medium-sized companies in France and Switzerland for 10 years. She was also regularly in charge of financial management and support to human resources.
Programme Coordinator for Kurdistan Region of Iraq
Sardar Sidiq Abdulkarim joined Geneva Call in 2015. He obtained a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and had been working with local and international NGOs and UN agencies for 17 years before joining Geneva Call. He has been included in the list of Geneva Call's friends around the world since 2007, when he was Executive Director of a nationalized program of Handicap International for physically and socially rehabilitating persons with disabilities, among which many victims of mines and explosive remnants of war. He has also been the focal point for Iraqi Kurdistan Region's campaign to ban landmines with ICBL for 3 years.
Operational Communication Coordinator
Nicolas Sion holds a Master's degree in International Management from ESCP Europe and London City University. He has worked in the private and NGO sectors and spent several years in project management with an international consulting group working on organizational, marketing and communication projects for multinationals. He also worked for several years in communication and fundraising for NGOs, and spent a year in Ecuador with Heifer International working on rural development projects. He joined Geneva Call in 2013.
Programme Manager and Desk Coordination Near and Middle East
Ann-Kristin ‘Anki’ Sjöberg first joined Geneva Call in 2004 and occupied a variety of positions within the organization. She received her Ph.D. in International Relations with a specialization in Political Science from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. Her work has focused on research and operational work with and on ANSAs. She has also worked on issues related to gender, armed conflict and security sector reform in Colombia, Nepal, South Sudan, and West Africa. In June 2011 she became Chair of the NGO Gender and Mine Action Programme.
Pishkafti Tariq Shokri joined Geneva Call in August 2016. He holds a Master degree in English Language and Linguistics, Majored in Translation. He taught translation at Dohuk and Zakho Universities for three years. After the fall of Mosul and Shingal Conquest in 2014, he started working in the humanitarian field early in 2015 and assumed the position of project manager in a local NGO. He has also worked as interpreter for many events held both in Dohuk and Erbil.
Institutional Fundraising Officer
Annette Willi joined Geneva Call in 2014. She holds a Master’s of Arts degree from the University of Lausanne with a specialization in sociology of religion. She worked several years on disarmament issues, focusing on antipersonnel mines, cluster munitions and nuclear weapons as well as on military spending. Her previous responsibilities included project management, fundraising, communication, training, advocacy and the organization of events.
Communication and External Relations Assistant
Emilie Yakoubian joined Geneva Call in February 2017. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of Geneva and a Master’s degree in Biodiversity Conservation and Management from the University of Oxford. She deepened her knowledge of International Humanitarian Law by auditing several courses at Harvard University. Before joining Geneva Call, she was involved with international NGOs and worked on humanitarian and environmental issues.
